Every family, community, and/or team goes through seasons. Recently, for instance, our teaching has been in a season of emphasizing our call to be givers in His image. Being a giver in His image relates to all areas of life, whether we are talking about our approach to material possessions or international missions or our marriages. Being a Giver reflects the nature of our God, the Giver of all Good.
During the month of February we found ourselves in a season where the financial giving to the church was down quite a bit compared to recent months as well as compared to February ‘07. Already we have begun a course correction at the start of March. I want you to pray for and participate in an ongoing course correction as we move into the Spring. With joy and as the Lord leads your heart (for this is the biblical command in terms of both the manner and the amount we give), I want to challenge you to give generously in the weeks ahead. As a church family, a spiritual community, and a large disciplemaking team, let’s come together to return to being “on point” as a congregation that gives to His work among us. For His glory and by His grace, let’s expect the next season of giving to be one of extravagant generosity.
